Copywriting in 10 Easy Steps

With Susan Gunelius

New sessions start on the 1st Monday of each month (except May and August)-- sign up now for the July 7 class!

Do you want to transition your writing career to include copywriting in your list of services? This course will teach you the fundamentals of writing compelling marketing and advertising copy that will exceed your clients’ expectations. Copywriting will be broken down into ten linear steps (called the Copywriting Outline) teaching students that copywriting is less about writing and more about marketing. In fact, it’s unlike any other form of writing. You’ll learn not to be intimidated or overwhelmed by copywriting, but rather to be inspired and confident each time you tackle a new copywriting project.

A word of caution: this course will not teach you to write hard sales letters. Instead, it will teach you the basic steps you need to follow to write effective copy for any copywriting project.

Course Type: Individualized workshop. Reading, research and writing assignments with instructor critique, feedback and guidance in a supportive atmosphere.

Objective: By the end of this course, you will have completed a Copywriting Outline for a fictitious client as well as various types of copywriting assignments for that client and more. The steps you’ll learn are immediately transferable to the real world and will allow you to begin tackling copywriting projects as a freelance copywriter.

Duration: 10 steps combined into 4 lessons to be completed within a 4-week period.

Limit: Five students

Cost: $150

Tutorial Option: Included. The instructor will be available to you via email throughout the duration of the course.

Prerequisites: You must have access to email and be able to receive and view PDF files.  You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free at  http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Class Materials: Readings and assignments will be provided by the instructor as email attachments (Adobe PDF format).  You will receive feedback on your work via email response from the instructor.  The instructor is also available for email discussion throughout the duration of the course.

Curriculum:

Copywriting in 10 Easy Steps is a methodical approach to writing sales-oriented copy that will deliver the results your clients want and need.  Therefore, the course is very linear with each lesson building directly on the one before it.  Each week’s lesson teaches 2-3 steps in the Copywriting Outline with fictitious and real world examples enhancing the theories being taught.  Homework assignments are fairly simple but thought-provoking to force students to think like a copywriter.
